Dr Lauren Archer started out as a flying vet.
She graduated in veterinary science from the University of Sydney in 2008, then spent the first years of her career in a tiny plane between Katherine and the Torres Strait, working with cattle, horses, dogs and cats on remote stations and in Indigenous communities.
After the Northern Territory came practices up and down the east coast: Murwillumbah, Broken Hill, Maffra, Yeppoon. In 2019 she opened North Coast Veterinary Services here, on the idea that good veterinary care for rural animals should be accessible and affordable, not something you drive two hours for.
Mixed practice means she has seen everything from cows with mastitis to guinea fowl with gizzard worms.
Small animals inside. Large animals wherever they are.
The clinic is purpose built so pets get proper hospital care, and the truck is set up so livestock get seen on the property.

Grew up in the Northern Rivers and came home in 2022. In the field with horses, cows, alpacas and sheep, and in the clinic with dogs and cats.
Dr Bonnie Wetherall
BVSc (Hons)
Raised on a 200-acre cattle farm out of Mackay. A particular interest in birds, helped along by two quirky parrots at home.

Head Nurse
Here since the doors opened. Exceptional with animals and owners alike. Spends her weekends replanting rainforest and walking her staffies.
Keiran
Veterinary Nurse
Certificate IV since 2016, with volunteer work across domestic, native and exotic species. Officially the clinic's chief greyhound cuddler.
Matilda
Veterinary Nurse
Started as a trainee in 2019 and finished her Certificate IV this year. A local who grew up surrounded by family dogs and horses.
Amy
Veterinary Nurse
Graduated from Kingscliff TAFE. A hobby farmer with two horses and cattle at home, and a real interest in livestock health.
Anthony Archer
Administration and Veterinary Assistant
Grew up on a dairy farm in the Goulburn Valley and served in the Army. Comes along on call-outs when the job needs strength or a spotlight.
Certificate IV qualified nurses throughout, plus trainees from Kingscliff and Wollongbar TAFE.
And then there is Terry.
Adopted as a silly little kitten from a Murwillumbah farm, Terry is the furry heart of the place. When it gets hectic she still wants a cuddle. When it goes quiet she wants a play. If you see her around the clinic, she will take all the attention going.
